Leptospirosis rises again, claims 3 in Thane

MUMBAI: Leptospirosis, a bacterial infection that can quickly turn fatal, has already claimed three lives in the Mumbai metropolitan region this monsoon. The infection has claimed four lives in the state so far. Three of them were from Thane, including two from Dahanu.

Statistics collated by the directorate of health services ( DHS) show that Mumbai has contributed to 78% of the 209 leptospirosis cases reported in the state since the beginning of this year.

Since the onset on monsoon, around 30 cases of leptospirosis have been reported.

There have been no deaths in the city, though, due to the bacterial disease. Around 6,294 samples have been tested for leptospirosis.
