The crews with boat had left Androth, Lakshadweep Islands at 0530 hours on July 13 and was missing since then. Coast guard assistance was sought by the local administration.
The ICG official said extensive search was carried out in the area surrounding androth island including its north and north east sector, the likely fishing ground/area of drift due to prevailing weather condition from July 24 to 26, despite inclement weather.
Five air sorties by dornier aircraft were undertaken in and around androth island for locating missing boat from July 24. Simultaneously, maritime rescue and coordination centre (MRCC), Mumbai activated an international safety net (ISN) with the details of the missing boat and continuously transmitted to all sea farers transiting through the area for locating and assisting the missing boat.
The official said the boat was finally sighted by MV Morning Glory-5 at about 1530 hrs on July 26. Thereafter, unbroken air surveillance was maintained by CG Dornier aircraft till the arrival of ICG ship Lakshmibai. "The ICG ship undertook the life saving mission in hostile weather conditions. The ship sailed from Kochi late night on July 26 and rescued the boat. The rescued crews were provided medical assistance and succour on board ICGS Lakshmibai, while the boat was taken under tow and the ship set course for beypore," said the official.
