Housewife commits suicide in front of husband, kids

MUMBAI: A 28-year-old housewife committed suicide by consuming pesticide in front of her husband and two children in Kalbadevi on Sunday evening. The deceased, ShobhaShirshekar, had an argument with her husband leading to her suicide. The police have arrested her husband, Mahendra (35), on charges of harassment and abetment of suicide.

Police had initially registered an accidental death case. "However, Shobha's family told police that she was harassed by Mahendra which had forced her to take the extreme step. Later, the police booked Mahendra for abetment of suicide," said SanjivMandlik, senior inspector. Shobha had registered a complaint against Mahendra, a driver, with the LT Marg police in 2011.

Shobha and Mahendra had a love marriage 14 years ago. The couple had two children.
