MUMBAI: The number of complaints against auto drivers in western suburbs has dropped from 157 in November to just 43 complaints in March.
""This has happened due to the Gandhigiri campaign launched by the Andheri RTO since February this year,'' an official said. ""It has resulted in a drop of more than 70% in complaints.""
Statistics show that there were 113 complaints in April last year, which had peaked to 121 complaints in July and 157 in November. It has now been reduced to 88 in January, 58 in February and 43 complaints in March. The complaints were mainly against drivers behaving rudely, refusing passengers or demanding excess fares.
"The cases have come down drastically as we have created more awareness among drivers, distributed stickers and CDs asking them to behave properly and not refuse commuters for shorter distances,'' said deputy RTO Bharat Kalaskar.
In the past, Kalaskar had cracked a whip against more than a thousand drivers in the western suburbs. But in February this year, he decided to follow a different approach and use Gandhigiri to convince drivers to provide good service.
