MUMBAI: After losing in the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) elections last year, defeated candidates are hoping to return to the civic house as nominated members.

The nomination forms for five nominated members (corporators) to the MBMC will be accepted on April 5. In the 94-member house, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can nominate two members while the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Congress and Shiv Sena will get one seat each.

Defeated former corporators are making last minute efforts to return to power. The parties have the final say in nominating the candidates. Prominent citizens and former government officials are also considered.

A recent amendment in the qualification criteria made by the state government derecognises back door entry of defeated candidates.

The names of the nominated members will be announced in the general body meeting of the house to be held later this month.

The MBMC elections held in August 2012 saw the defeat of a number of sitting corporators.
