Chevening alumni ropes in NGOs to initiate social volunteering plan

MUMBAI: The Indian professionals and scholars who are part of the Chevening alumni, under the British high commission, will soon launch a pilot social initiative to give something back to the society through social service.

For this purpose, three well-known NGOs have also been roped in by Chevening alumni to assist in this pilot volunteering initiative. They are Naz Foundation, Lend-A-Hand India and Innoaction India.

This is in fact a social volunteering scheme of the Chevening Alumni for 'Grassroots' NGOs, which will be formally launched on April 9 in Mumbai,'' said an official at the British deputy high commission.

While Naz Foundation helps people suffering from HIV/AIDS, irrespective of gender, class, caste or religion; Lend-A-Hand India is a non-profit venture that was launched in 2003 by young professionals. It is based in New York and focuses on issues related to youth. Its programmes provide vocational training, career development, employment, and entrepreneurial opportunities to young boys and girls in rural and urban communities. Lend-A-Hand India collaborates with dynamic grass-root non-profit organizations to develop and implement innovative projects.

Innoaction India is by a group of professionals that has been active in the field of frugal innovation and innovation management for more than a decade. It deals with the importance of frugal innovations in emerging economies for catering to the needs of grassroots, such as the farmers.
