Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation to dig borewells to address water issue

MUMBAI: To address the water scarcity in the region, the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) has decided to dig borewells in the region.

The standing committee has made a provision in the 2013-14 budget to dig borewells.

An amount of Rs 75 lakhs has been earmarked.

Tenders will be invited. The Vasai region has over 250 borewells. While the villages in the region rely on the wells for water, the urban areas is dependent on tanker fed water supply.

Villages like Koli, Kaman, Sassonvagar, Juchandra have several borewells. The municipality is also undertaking cleaning up and beautification of its lakes.
