MUMBAI: The city crime branch arrested a 30 year old unemployed man from Nehru Nagar slums in Juhu for stealing a woman officer's loaded service revolver in October last year. The accused, Ponu Durrai Devendra, told police that after stealing the pistole he had hidden it near Mumbai airport.
The police recovered the weapon and bullets. Police said that a woman police officer's service pistol was stolen from a public toilet near Juhu beach on the last day of Ganeshotsav. The Santa Cruz police had registered a case of theft and were also investigating the officer's claim. According to police, the officer was deployed at Juhu beach on Saturday.
The officer has claimed that she had the pistol, which had six live rounds, while she was on duty at the beach. According to her complaint, on the day of thedt at around 8 pm, she went to a nearby public toilet. She allegedly removed the pistol and kept it on the window sill, from where, according to the officer, it was stolen. When the cop found her pistol missing, she immediately alerted her senior officers. Cops launched a hunt but were unable to trace anyone in the crowd. However, senior officers found it difficult to believe the officer's story.
