Coal shortage affects power generation in Maharashtra

MUMBAI: Coal shortage has affected power generation in the state, said Maharashtra deputy chief minister AjitPawar who is incharge of energy.

In a written reply to the state legislative council, Pawar said the state-owned power generating units had received 27% less coal in October 2012 which had resulted in electricity generation declining by nearly 7%.

The issue was raised by Shiv Sena legislator Diwakar Raote who had sought to know if MAHAGENCO's electricity generation had declined by 30-40%.

Pawar said all power generating units have been following up with various coal companies to be provided coal as per the signed agreements.
