MUMBAI: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray has slammed the Congress for the delay in hanging Parliament terror convict Afzal Guru and called it a huge 'farce.'
Thackeray who was in Satara as part of his state wide tour alleged that the Congress has played politics with the Afzal Guru case. "The Supreme Court had upheld his death sentence in 2005, and he has been hanged now, why this inordinate delay? Is it because around October there are going to be elections in 8 to ten states?" Raj said.
The MNS chief said that it was unfortunate that politics was being played over such issue of national significance. "One should delink politics from these decisions, tomorrow who knows just before the elections the government could go for a small Kargil type war (with Pakistan) to divert attention of the citiznes," the MNS chief added.
