MUMBAI: Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar has assured that drought region in Marathwada would get some relief from the government. Pawar was in Ambad in Jalna district where there is an acute water shortage. Pawar told the farmers who have faced an enormous losses as lack of rain throughout last year has destroyed all their crops that he would be highlighting their issue in the centre and would also be raising their issue with Maharashtra chief minister Privthviraj Chavan so that a sufficient package could be given for the villagers.
Jalna is one of the worst affected districts in the state as even drinking water is not available for the residents. Residents of Jalna get drinking water for 15 minutes once in a fortnight, it is reliably learnt.
The agriculture minister is on a two-day tour to the drought hit areas in Marathwada beginning from Sunday (Februray 10).
