Speaking at a workshop on legal justice organized by the Indian Merchants' Chamber Ladies Wing Legal Council Cell's Swabhimaan, Maneshinde, the main speaker, said, "Delay in the dispensation of justice is the root cause of rise in the crime against women."
The Indian Merchants' Chamber (IMC) has been established more than 100 years ago with social and economic goals for the development of commerce and society. The IMC Ladies Wing addresses various social issues that are relevant to women. With a view to further strengthen the activities of the IMC Ladies Wing and to propagate legal awareness, the LW is establishing a Legal Aid Cell.
Maneshinde also said that the strength of judges across the state may double in five years and he said that the reason women avoid going to the police with details of the crime against them is because of the fear of unnecessary publicity. Police are often also "badly behaved" he said.
Darshana M Doshi, president, Ladies Wing of IMC commented that, "The Ladies Wing has come to the assistance of women by offering free legal consultation for various issues - property matters, child custody, streedhan, maintenance of children, maintenance of the wife/live-in partner, registration of marriage, contractual obligations, domestic violence, taxation, divorce, trade marks and copyright issues, marital inheritance, sexual harassment and gender bias, immigration and nationality issues, housing cooperative societies and related matters such as society nominations."
