Man robs student of cellphone, held

MUMBAI: The Malad police recently arrested a 25-year-old man for robbing a college student of his cellphone. The complainant, Mihir Shah, had met the accused, Mohammad Ansari in Malad.

Ansari initiated a conversation with Shah (17). When Shah said he was studying at a Malad-based college, Ansari said he works as a cook in the college's canteen and began boasting about his contacts. Ansari asked Shah for his cellphone to make a call. When Shah refused, Ansari snatched the handset and said he was moving to an adjacent lane as the network was down. When he did not reappear, Shah realized he had been conned.

Ansari was arrested on January 10. Cops suspect that Ansari has robbed at least 20 students in a similar manner using several aliases.
