MUMBAI: Jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh was stolen from a Mumbai-based family while they were travelling from Mangalore to Mumbai on Sunday night. Manohar Shenoy, the complainant, told the railway police that his cellphone, two ATM cards and Pan card too was stolen. The incident took place in the Matsyagandha Express.
Shenoy, an Andheri resident, works as an additional chief engineer with a firm. He had gone to Udipi to attend a wedding along with his wife and five-year-old daughter. The trio boarded the Matsyagandha Express to return to Mumbai on Sunday evening. They had kept their jewellery, vital documents, cellphone and ATM cards in a shoulder bag, before going to sleep.
"Shenoy's wife woke up early on Monday as the train reached Roha station. She was alarmed when she couldn't find the shoulder bag anywhere. The family searched all the coaches of the train, but in vain. They could not find any Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel escorting the train either," a railway police officer said. After the train jouney terminated, the Shenoys approached the Kurla Government Railway Police and lodged a complaint. The case has been transferred to Roha police and the stolen mobilephone is being tracked, police said.
