The deceased, Amol Landge, was under depression after the woman constable who was not keeping well, denied his approach for getting into a relationship. "The main reason was that the woman denied to have a relationship with him. He was addicted to alcohol after his parents had forced him to marry two years back after dismissing his affair with the woman constable," said a police officer.
The army also blacklisted Landge from the force due to his unprofessional way of working. He came to Mumbai two months ago and stayed at his lover's flat situated in the police quarters. "Landge hailed from Sangli and was in a relationship with the woman constable who lives at the Ghatkopar police quarters. However, Landge's parents got him married to another woman. He was depressed because his parents got him married against his wishes. He used to frequently visit his lover's residence for the past two months," said Ghatkopar police inspector, Rajkumar Kothmire.
Landge visited the cop's residence on Friday around 4.30pm and he directly went to the bathroom and hung himself from an iron rod of the window. "The woman constable said when Landge did not come out for a while she got suspicious. She knocked the bathroom door but there was no response. She broke open the door and found Landge hanging. He was rushed to the Rajawadi Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival," said Kothmire.
He added that Landge had not been reporting to work and had developed a drinking habit. No suicide note was found. The police have registered a case of accidental death. "The woman constable's statement has been recorded," he said.
