The girl's happiness knew no bounds as she learned about that Kasab was hanged early morning on November 21.
Recollecting the memories of that ill-fated day, Devika said "I was going to Pune with my father and brother on 26/11. Suddenly, a few armed men opened fire and while trying to escape it, one bullet hit my stomach. I fell unconscious and my brother went missing. Kasab laughed as he fired aimlessly at us. I was rushed to a hospital, where the staff was tending to many others who were also injured. I was shifted to another hospital at 4 am, but was operated upon only the next evening at 4. And then I got discharged and we went to temple to pray."
Despite the ordeal, Devika decided to give her statement and identify Kasab in the court. "We were at our native place, Nagpur, and my uncle called to ask me if I had seen Kasab and could identify him in the court. I gave a statement against Kasab in court that he shot people and threw bomb also," says the girl.
Undeterred by the taunts of her neighbours, fearless Devika only wanted justice. She recalls, "My family never stopped me from giving a statement against him. But there were a few who used to say, "She is Devika, one of the victims. Don't speak to her otherwise we will also get shot." She also told that many schools refused to give her admission because they feared that if she joined their school, Kasab's friends would avenge his arrest by opening fire at the school.
"Finally, Akhil Bhartiya came forward and said that they will fight for me. I got the admission in a school in fifth standard, but because of my age, I was shifted to the seventh standard." Now, studying in the ninth standard, Devika is happy that she could contribute to Kasab's hanging," said Devika.
