NAVI MUMBAI: A 15-year-old schoolboy reportedly committed suicide at his house in Goregaon village, Raigad district, only because his mother did not allow him to go out to play night cricket.
According to Goregaon police, the victim Krutarth Ghanshyam Giri, who is studying in tenth standard at Nikam High School (Mangaon taluka), was extremely upset on not being allowed to play night cricket in his locality at Ayodhya Nagar, on Wednesday.
The boy's mother, Utkarsha Giri (35), had told him not to venture out of the house as his father (Ghanshyam Giri) was also away. A little after midnight, the boy consumed 'phorate' pesticide which is often used in farms,'' informed police constable, Pramod Kakatkar of Goregaon police station.
Krutarth was rushed to a hospital in Mangaon, but could not be saved. No suicide note was left behind.
The boy's suicide has shocked his friends and school teachers. Krutarth was a sincere student, and was regular in his studies as he was preparing for the SSC board exams. We are all shocked,'' said a senior staff member of Nikam High School in Mangaon.
The boy's father, Ghanshyam Giri, works as a professor in a junior college in Mangaon.
At present, the police has registered a case of accidental death under Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc) section 174, as the officials are further inquiring into this serious matter.
