MUMBAI: A 20-year-old hawker has complained that he was beaten up by two railway police constables, on Saturday morning, when he refused to pay them a 'hafta'. The Dadar police has lodged a non-cognizable offence.
The hawker, Shamsher Shaikh, and his wife sell hair accessories and toys on the foot overbridge at Dadar. Shaikh is a Kurla resident. Around 8 am on Saturday, he and his wife had put up their stall when two railway police constables approached them. The duo asked for a 'hafta' of Rs 20 to 30. Shaikh told the cops that business was yet to begin and that they should return later. At this, the cops lost their cool and started thrashing him. They also began dragging him away. Shaikh then pulled out a piece of blade and began slashing his arm. The cops panicked and dropped him, taking to their heels. Shaikh got himself treated at the KEM Hospital, before approaching the Dadar police station.
When contacted, Dadar police refused to identify the two accused railway policemen.
