The Vasai sessions court had recently acquitted two suspects, tribal daily wage labourers from Vikramgad, Subhash Kakad and Rajesh Kakad, both aged 20, for lack of evidence. The local crime branch of the Thane rural police was pulled up by the court for shoddy investigation.
Father Bombacha (75) was found murdered in his first floor flat at Barampur in Vasai (west) on April 29, 2010. The ground floor of the building housed a chapel where people prayed in the mornings. Bombacha was brutally murdered with 13 stab wounds. A pair of scissor was also stuffed into his mouth.
Police in November 2010 arrested the two suspects who were working in the chapel. The two were accused by the police of killing the pastor and stealing holy vessels__ a brass chalice and Monstrance__, which they assumed to be gold and wanted to sell and earn a quick buck. Atleast 20 social organisations came together at a meeting on Saturday and decided to appeal to the central government for a CBI investigation. The various organisations have started gathering the support of the public to demand a fresh probe into the murder. Representatives of the various organisations said that the killers were roaming freely even as the people were loosing faith in the police.
The various organisations will sit on a dharna outside the Vasai tehsildar's office on Thursday from 10 am to 3 pm. A memorandum demanding fresh investigation will be submitted to the tehsildar and other government officials, including the central government.
