Maharashtra govt to implement guidelines to prevent accidents

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government has decided to set up a committee of ministers of state to implement guidelines to prevent road accidents.

The committee will comprise ministers of state of home, public works, transport and health.

On an average there are 70,000 road accidents in Maharashtra in which approximately 12,000 people are killed and another 45,0000 injured.

While the government has issued various guidelines to prevent road accidents these are not being implemented. The home department has, therefore, decided to set up the co-ordination committee comprising ministers of state of departments that deal with roads and accidents.

The committee will co-ordinate to ensure that government decisions are implemented.
