The general body of the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) on Monday hiked the cost of water for residential purpose from Rs 7 per 1000 litre to Rs 10 per 1000 litre. The water consumed for commercial purpose has also been hiked from Rs 20 per 1000 litre to Rs 40 per 1000 litre. The hike in cost of water was done by the BJP led alliance.
The region has been getting water supply every 36 to 48 hours. The region receives 86 mld water from the Shahad Temghar Water Authority (STEM), a consortium of three municipal corporations of Thane, Bhiwandi-Nizampur and Mira-Bhayander. Another 50 mld comes from MIDC.
Meanwhile, the municipality has got a sanction of Rs 167.44 crore from the state government to lay new water pipelines. The pipelines will be laid from Shiphata to Patlipada and from Patlipada to Hatkesh in Mira Road. The total cost of the project is Rs 239.21 crore. The balance money will be spend by the municipality. The civic administration will initiate the process of inviting tenders to lay the pipeline which is expected to be completed in two years.
