MUMBAI: The chemicals and fertilizers ministry has decided to set up a biofertilizer unit on the land belonging to the Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF) in Chembur. It wants to use biowaste generated by Navi Mumbai as feedstock for making compost.

This biowaste is collected at the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation depot in Vashi.

Hansraj Ahir, minister of state for fertilizers, said a proposal would be sent to CM Devendra Fadnavis — who holds the urban development portfolio — to ask NMMC to accept his ministry's proposal.
