Mumbai cop on VIP duty in Bhayander dies of cardiac arrest

MUMBAI: An assistant police inspector on VVIP duty at an auditorium in Bhayander where BJP ministers are undergoing training session died of a cardiac arrest on Sunday morning.

API Mahendrasingh Pardeshi (47) of the Bhayander police station was on duty at the Rambhau Mhalji Prabodhini, in Utan, Bhayander (west) since Saturday night for the three-day training organised for BJP MLAs. At around 6 am, Pardeshi who was in the premises complained of uneasiness. He was taken to a nearby hospital but declared dead on admission.

According to police sources, Pardeshi was on duty since February 27 at the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation for the mayor's election. The same evening, he was on VVIP duty at the Utan auditorium due to arrival of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and other BJP MPs and MLAs. On Saturday he was back on bandobast duty at the auditorium.

The body was taken for autopsy and was later kept at the police station. Senior police officials including Inspector General (Konkan Range) Amitabh Gupta and Thane rural superintendent of police Rajesh Pradhan visited the police station to pay respects to Pardeshi. His family arrived from Nashik.

Pardeshi had been transferred to the Bhayander police station a year ago. His previous posting was at the Khed police station.
