The matter came to light when the 35-year-old victim, who is employed at a private firm, recently learnt that the accused Ankush Makharia got married a few months after he met her through a marriage portal in 2013.
Makharia was arrested from his Amboli house based on a complaint filed by the victim under IPC's Section 376.
"Makharia approached her with a marriage proposal. After meeting a few times, Makharia, however, backed out. The victim then said they can continue to be friends. However, the accused took advantage of the friendship and gradually got into a relationship after allegedly assuring to marry the victim," said D N Nagar police senior inspector DS Nalavade.
Makharia, according to the police, then started visiting the victim's house frequently. "The victim said she learnt about Makharia's marriage recently. For two years, he had a relationship with her after making false promises of marriage. She got suspicious, enquired about Makharia's whereabouts and found he was already married , said the investigators.
