MUMBAI: A Surat-based accused who was arrested three days ago gave the Nalasopara police a slip while being escorted to the lockup in a share auto on Tuesday.
A cheating case was registered against Sandipkumar Singh (38) on May 14, 2014. He, was, however holed up in Surat. On Sunday, the police learnt that Singh was staying in Shri Apartment, Gavraipada, Nallasopara (E). He was arrested and remanded to police custody.
On Tuesday, Singh was taken to the newly opened Tulinj police station in Nalasopara (east) in connection with the case. While returning back to the Nalasopara police station at around 8 pm in a share auto along with constable Gajanan Desale, Singh jumped off the moving auto and fled towards the railway station. Desale halted the auto and ran behind Singh but soon lost track of him due to the crowd around the station. Police suspect that Singh may have taken a train and headed towards Mumbai.
A case under Section 224 (resistance to lawful arrest) of the IPC has been registered against Singh. An inquiry has also been instituted against Desale.
