The post-mortem report showed the victim, identified as Chaya Satpute, was strangled. The police said they picked up her husband, Sakaram, on suspicion and he cracked during questioning, confessing to killing Chaya over a monetary dispute.
The deceased used to run a credit society.
"Sakaram confessed that he owned a transport company which was running in losses," a police officer said. "He owed Rs 32 lakh taken on interest from financial institutions, including Rs 3 lakh which his wife had got as a loan for him."
The police said Sakaram used a bedsheet to kill Chaya.
