MUMBAI: The husband of a woman Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her Mira Road home has been arrested for murder.

The Mira Road police arrested Shivkumar, a railway employee for killing his wife Shalini Patel (36) on December 10. While the police had registered an accidental death report, the autopsy confirmed death due to head injury.

The couple's eight year old son's statement helped the police. The son told the police that his parents had a massive fight on Wednesday that turned violent. He told the police that his father hit his mother on her head, following which she collapsed and never woke up.

The boy saw his father carry his mother to the bed as she lay unconscious. He then dropped his son to school. When the boy returned home in the evening he found his mother lying on bed. The father then rushed her to the Bhaktivedanta hospital where she was declared dead before admission.

Police said that the accused suspected his wife, who worked at the Bhayander RPF, of having an affair with his brother. The couple often fought. She was on a week's sick leave, said the police.
