The modus operandi of the gang was to move in cars with a laptop, identify the car and than unlock the car using the software.
Police have arrested four persons identified as Ayub Ali Shaikh(37), an electrician by profession, Nishant Gunjal (32), a resident of Abyudaya co operative housing society in Kalachowky, Ranjit Choudhary (26), a Andheri resident and Tejhir Hussain alias Babloo (38) from Sultanpur in UP.Police have recovered mobile phones, one Chevrolet car and a laptop from the accused.
Interestingly the accused told police that they used to steal the cars using a software technology brought from Saudi Arab and Taiwan. All the four accused have been booked for stealing, cheating, forgery and criminal intimidation and have been remanded to police custody. Police said that they have recovered a Chevrolet car from them and more are likely to be recovered in days to come.
The gang came to light after a house wife Paroo Dediya from Kalachowky in Central Mumbai in August lodged a complaint of her Chevrolet car getting stolen from a stores in Wadala. During the course of investigations police initially arrested Tejhir Hussain alias Babloo and during his interrogations he spill the beans on his accomplices.
"The modus operandi of the gang was to identify cars parked outsides shopping malls and than with the help of Gunjal, a software engineer would unbreak the computerized chip lock using a software through laptop. Gang would always walk with laptop so that they get the secret chip number stored in the car keys," said an officer.
