Rakesh Maria, police commissioner, said that whoever has any problem with vehicles carrying animals should approach the police.
"Similarly, if anyone feels being harassed by some people for bringing animals, he should contact our 24 hour helpline (022-22641752/22623054)". When asked about some anti social elements who stop vehicles carrying animals every year, Maria said," We will not allow anyone to do policing. If anyone has any problem, they should approach the police." Till date more than 6,000 animals have been brought in the city. Maria added that the police conducted a joint meeting with the BMC and deployed over 600 cops for bandobast at Deonar abattoir.
"There are police escort vehicles. Our teams have gone to various places in the city and even in other states to check the vehicle number that are carrying animals for Mumbai. Nobody will be allowed to take law in hand," said Maria.
On election bandobast Maria added that 60 places having Returning Officers' offices have been provided bandobast during filing of election nominations. He added that on October 2nd and 3rd the deadline for use of loudspeakers has been extended till 12 midnight. Cops have asked licensed weapons holders to deposit their weapons and are preparing list of all the wanted criminals.
