"Control rooms have been set up at the five most crowded visarjan points of Girgaum Chowpatty, Shivaji Park, Juhu Chowpatty, Bandra S V Road and Powai. Additionally, a tower has been erected at Marve," said Dr B K Upadhyaya, joint commissioner, traffic police. Altogether, 37 watch towers, with public announcement systems, have been set up.
Traffic officials said special arrangements have been made this year at visarjan points to return lost kids and to provide medical aid. There will also be present 400 lifeguards at these places. "3,500 traffic cops and 7,500 volunteers will be out on the streets. We have roped in 156 cranes to tow away broken-down vehicles and will put 3,000 steel plates on beaches so that vehicles do not get stuck in the sand," said Upadhyaya.
WR has made visarjan day arrangements too. To prevent overcrowding at Charni Road station on Monday, Up slow line trains will not halt there from 5pm to 10pm, and Up fast trains will halt at all stations between Mumbai Central and Churchgate from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.
