MUMBAI: A lawyer from Gujarat, who had unknowingly dropped his train ticket at Mumbai Central Terminus, was pleasantly surprised when the GRP called him to return it.

Navin Gohil, 34, had booked a ticket at Mumbai Central for travelling to his Bharuch residence on the Avantika Express on Tuesday evening. "I had come to Mumbai for some work at Santa Cruz and decided to head back home around 5.30 pm. As my train was scheduled to depart by 7 pm, I decided to take a stroll and left the station premises. I did not realize that the ticket fell near a bookstore at the Terminus," Gohil told TOI.

Three GRP personnel__ Sunil Gaikwad, Shivaji Allora and Prashant Gole__ were patrolling the Terminus and found Gohil's ticket. They noticed that it was dated for the same day and the train was yet to depart. The three constables then approached clerks at the ticket booking office and asked them to look up their record for Gohil. One of them found the ticket number and provided the cops with Gohil's cellphone number.

"When we dialled Gohil, he was confident that he possessed the ticket. But after a search, he grew anxious as he couldn't find it. He then called us back and met us. Had he not written down his mobile number on the railway form, while booking the ticket, we would never have been able to get through to it," said Gole.

Gohil said he was very thankful to the cops and would have been in a soup had he boarded the train without the ticket.
