MUMBAI: After actively supporting various causes for women over the past six years, the Lavasa Women's Drive (LWD) has achieved a new recognition in its sixth edition. This year, 934 women drove 467 cars from the city and Pune to scenic Lavasa and broke a Guinness World Record for most female participants in a motor sport event.

"It is a proud moment for us at Lavasa," Anuradha Paraskar, senior vice-president of marketing and sales, Lavasa Corporation Limited, said. "What started as an innovative concept six years ago has now made a mark on the global stage ... We salute the spirit of the participants and congratulate them for setting a new record."

Lavasa Women's Drive has been actively supporting the cause of women's cancer prevention through early detection since 2009. A large part of the money collected through registration is donated to the Women's Cancer Initiative at the Tata Memorial Hospital.

"The vision for LWD always has been to make it an evolving and expanding platform for women to come together and spread awareness about social causes," Nandan Srinath, director (response), The Times of India, said.

Winners will be felicitated by actor Amitabh Bachchan at a ceremony here on Tuesday.
