MUMBAI: The East Indians have decided to setup a new international body for their community to represent their associations and professional in Indians abroad.
A decision in this regard was taken at the first ever East Indian Conclave held in Mumbai on November 10. The agenda of the conclave was to plan the way forward for the sons-of-soil community of Bombay, Thane, Vasai and Raigad.
The new umbrella organization will be called the International East Indian Community Council (IEICC). Alexander Dsouza, a finance specialist was selected as the Commissioner and Alphi Dsouza, Mobai Gaothan Panchayant (MGP) Head Sarpanch was selected the Deputy Commission
Alphi D'souza said, "MGP also released its 10 projects proposed for the year 2014. It includes East Indian Products, East Indian Pocket Calendar, Cardinal Simon Pimenta East Indian Awards, East Indian Community Fund, East Indian Job Cell, East Indian Directory, East Indian Card, East Indian Bhavan, East Indian Food Stall, East Indian Tour."
MGP also plans to release a book on the Community every year. In December it will release the East Indian Dictionary and next year a Cook Book has been planned.
There were 34 participants who finalized the Agenda for the Year 2014 for the Central/State Government, Municipal authorities, Archdiocese and the East Indian Associations/individuals. Bishop John Rodrigues also visited the Conclave and encouraged the Conclave which looked at creating an United front for the East Indian Community.
He further said, "The top points in the agenda simplified repair permissions, simplified OBC certificate process, scrapping of of Manori Gorai Uttan Tourism plan, regularisation of Holy Crosses, East Indian BMC Corporator to be specially nominated and Gaothan Infrastructure to be improved, etc."
