The police have initiated strict action against rash-driving, signal-jumping, lane-cutting and over-speeding by vehicles, according to DCP (traffic) Pratap Dighavkar.
"We have collected a fine of Rs 3,95,63,800 in all of these cases since January to August this year. In 1,313 rash-driving cases, Rs 1.75 lakh has been collected as fine," the senior police official told reporters here on Thursday.
As many as 62,194 cases of signal jumping took place and a fine of Rs 54 lakh was collected, Dighavkar said.
"A fine of over Rs 4.50 lakhs has been collected in various incidents of lane-cutting (5,209) and dangerous driving (3,328 cases)," he said.
Expressing concern over the increasing number of drunk-driving cases, the official said two-wheeler drivers were more offenders in such cases. "6,584 two-wheeler drivers (65 per cent) were booked for drunken driving cases out of the total 10,167," he added.
Major spots in the metropolis where motorcyclists perform stunts during late night include Marine drive in south Mumbai, Worli sea face (central Mumbai), Carter road and Band Stand in suburban Bandra, Oshiwara back road, Western Express Highway (WEH), and Eastern Express Highway (EEH), he said.
