MUMBAI: Police commissioner Satyapal Singh will chair the meeting of the Mumbai District School Bus Safety Committee on Monday afternoon.
Officials from RTO, traffic police and state education department will participate in the meeting, which will be organised in the city police headquarters. RTO sources said that officials will brief the police chief about the increasing cases of violations by school bus operators. "We will also provide a list of names of schools and bus operators who have failed to strictly implement the new School Bus policy,'' said a senior RTO official.
He further said that the RTO officials will also alert the local police in near future about gross violations of the new policy - such as absence of a woman attendant in a bus ferrying girls. "We will also get the background checks of some of the cleaners and drivers done by the cops in near future,'' a RTO official said.
Anil Garg of the School Bus Owners' Association said that every member belonging to the association has adhered to the new school bus policy and made amendments/modifications in the buses. "But there are some unscrupulous operators and also those (vans and private cars) who operate without permit. The RTO should crack a whip on such errant operators,'' he demanded. The Tardeo RTO prosecuted 15 errant operators in the past one month in the island city.
