"This is the best opportunity to see and appreciate the beauty of nearly 15,000 flamingos spread out on the mudflats, with the backdrop of lush mangroves.
"Apart from flamingos, which have flown down from Kutch, this is also a good place to see several other species of resident and migratory avian friends such as herons, egrets, ibises, gulls, terns, plovers, sandpipers, kingfishers and many more, absolutely free, under the guidance of BNHS experts with state-of-the-art binoculars and spotting scopes.
"This is also an occasion to learn about the importance of Mumbai's coastal environment and show one's solidarity for the conservation of Mumbai's wildlife. The Sewri mudflats area is threatened by the proposed Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), if the alignment is not changed.
"Along with the opportunity to view the birds to one's heart's content, the Festival will also have a colourful illustrated exhibition on flamingos, activities for students including face painting and other material related to environment education. All are invited with family and friends to this annual nature fair of Mumbai to celebrate the presence of flamingos.
