MUMBAI: A traffic constable suffered severe injuries on his right leg after he was knocked down by a speeding motorcycle. The unidentified biker had jumped a signal.

Mahesh Ahivale (39) was heading towards a traffic police chowky on Sunday when the biker ran over his leg and fled, said the Chunabhatti police.

The incident occurred around 3.45pm, when Ahivale was on duty at Priyadarshini Circle in Suman Nagar, Chembur. In his complaint, A Ahivale said, "I was walking on the roadside when the signal turned red at the circle. I saw a motorcyclist coming at high speed on the empty highway heading towards Sion. I signalled the biker to stop but he raced the bike and hit me before speeding away."

A police officer said Ahivale could not note down the bike number as he lost balance on being hit. "Another cop, who was present at the spot, rushed Ahivale to Surana Hospital. We are trying to get details of the biker," said the officer. The unidentified biker has been booked under IPC sections under IPC sections for rash and negligent driving.
