Three extortionist arrested in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Three persons who threatened a steel trader impersonfiying as gangster Ravi Pujari's henchmen and demanded extortion sum of Rs 50 lakh were nabbed by the anti-extortion cell of Mumbai police.

The three arrested person have been identified as Rakesh Pawaskar, Usman Mohammed Shaikh alias Viru and Ganesh Gawli. All the three have criminal record. While Pawaskar has been convicted to life imprisonment and his appeal is pending before the high court, the two others were arrested in 2008 by Nirmal Nagar police in Bandra. Police said that three got close to each other in Arthur road jail.

Steel trader Dipesh Joshi had approached the city crime branch complaining that he was getting threatening calls from Pujari gang.Joshi told police that the caller called him over his landline as well mobile and threatened to kill him and his family members. Police said that the caller demanded a sum of Rs 50 lakh however later when Joshi told him that he cannot effort to pay, the caller reduced the amount to Rs 5 lakh.

Joshi who had already lodged a complaint, laid a trap and got three arrested.
