Maharashtra govt to get cancer institute at GMCH

The Maharashtra Government has promised to pursue the issue of getting a State Cancer Institute at the Government Medical College and Hospital with the union government and try to get the sanction and funds for the same at the earliest. The project costs Rs 120 crore.

Medical education minister Vinod Tawde gave this assurance during the ongoing budget session while replying to a question from South Nagpur MLA Sudhakar Kohale.

Tawde also promised to expedite the matter regarding installing a linear accelerator at the GMCH's radiotherapy and oncology department. "Though the college has not submitted a formal proposal as yet to the state government but the government is doing this in a proactive effort," Kohale told TOI.
