"Basumatary is a history-sheeter. He, along with his associates, had kidnapped a businessman in Assam for extortion. He is one of the platoon commanders of the Sounjit faction. He seems to be fully trained in militant activities. The Assam police has reached Mumbai and they are interrogating the accused. The ATS had got information about these suspects taking shelter in Navi Mumbai, and worked five days continuously to verify the information and then arrested them," the officer added. "Basumatary's arrest will help us detect the other platoon commanders hiding in various parts of the country," said another officer.
The trio was wanted in a case of kidnapping, criminal conspiracy and waging war against the nation in Chariduar police station, Sonitpur, Assam. Those arrested include Basumatary (22), Swamkhwr Basumatary (20) and Purno Narzary (19). They were produced in court on Saturday. After the Assam massacre when the NDFB gunned down over 74 villagers, Assam police began cracking down on the outfit. Many commandos fled Assam and were hiding in various part of the country.
