MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has demanded an apology from Maharashtra culture minister Vinod Tawde.

Tawde kicked up a controversy when he turned down a request from the Marathi Sahitya Sammelan to broadcast the Sammelan on Doordarahan free of cost.

In a press release the Congress said writers and poets were contributing in the promotion of Marathi language and nit doing it as a business.

The MPCC said if Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speeches abroad could be broadcast on Doordarshan including inauguration of a housing unit in Sri Lanka then why not the Sammelan.
