Taxi driver at large after assaulting bus conductor at Malad

MUMBAI: A taxi driver assaulted a bus conductor near the busy SV Road at Malad West following an altercation early on Tuesday. The bus conductor, Rajendra Sangle, had alighted from the bus and was giving directions to the driver for reversing, when the incident took place. The cabbie has not been identified and is at large.

The incident took place around 6.30am on Sainath Road. Road repair work is on at the SV Road junction and there was a major traffic snarl on Tuesday. Sangle was on duty in BEST bus no. 271 which was ferrying passengers from Sainath Road to Madh jetty before heading to Malad depot. To move out of the traffic jam, the bus driver decided to reverse the vehicle. Sangle got off, went to the rear of the bus and started blowing his whistle so that the driver knew when to apply his brakes.

"The cabbie came up from behind the bus and stopped his vehicle near Sangle. He and Sangle had a verbal duel. The cabbie used abusive language and assaulted Sangle, before flinging away his satchel which contained Rs 205 in BEST earnings," said an official from the Malad police station. After the cabbie left, Sangle was taken to the Shatabdi Hospital where he was administered first-aid for bruises on his chest and rest of the body. A case of 'assault' and 'obstructing a government servant from doing his duty' have been registered against the cabbie.
