Sack 35 govt staff convicted for graft: CM

MUMBAI: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday asked chief secretary Swadheen Kshatriya to dismiss around 35 government employees, who have been convicted on charges of corruption.

"I found that despite being convicted by the special court, they are still holding government posts," Fadnavis said, adding, "I have asked the chief secretary to take immediate action against the erring employees."

In fact, a week after Fadnavis took over the reins, he had given specific instructions to the administration to take stern action against all employees convicted under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Tuesday's move comes after it was found that despite the CM's specific orders, no action has been taken.``It reflects poorly on the administration. Despite the fact that a person has been convicted, he still continues in the government job. We feel that the chief secretary must fix responsibility on the heads of the departments, too. An independent departmental probe should be conducted against them," a senior ACB official said.
