The deceased, Vipul Shah (38), resided in Borivli with his wife and son and owned a shop in the same locality. On February 5, Shah told his family that he was leaving for work. When he did not return by February 7, his wife registered a missing person's complaint.
On Friday afternoon, Madh locals informed the police about a body having been washed ashore. "No suicide note was found. We established Shah's identity on the basis of contents of his wallet. We are probing the case," said senior inspector Prakash Patil, Malwani police station.
The body was sent for an autopsy and the reports are awaited. A case of accidental death has been registered.
