It’s shameful that Obama’s lecturing us: Digvijaya Singh

MUMBAI: Addressing the seventh convention of Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP) in the city on Saturday, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh deplored that the US President Barack Obama was lecturing us on our Constitutional rights.

"It is shameful that an American president is preaching us about the rights in our Constitution. We have reached such a situation that now Obama has to show us the mirror," said Singh. He called upon the crowd at Saboo Siddiqui Engineering College ground in Byculla to guard against the forces that were threatening the Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb (composite culture) of India. "Our composite culture is under threat. There are attempts to kill our century-old culture of tolerance. We must join hands to safeguard our secularism," said Singh. Speaking in the same vein Sudheendra Kulkarni, chairman of Observer Research Foundation, slammed the Centre for doing away with words like 'secularism' and 'socialism' in the Preamble of the Constitution in government advertisements. tnn
