Conman arrested in Mumbai

MUMBAI: The city crime branch arrested a 44-year-old conman, Vijay Donde alias Shelar, a Nasik resident, for cheating Ravindra Jadhav, a statistical officer with Thane zilla parishad. Shelar promised Jadhav to arrange government job for his son and daughter in-law and took Rs four lakh.

DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni, city police's spokesperson, said that the incident took place on June 3, 2014. "Jadhav stays in Pune and works in Thane. He had met Shelar in train and during their meeting he hinted bout his unemployed son and his wife. Shelar claimed he was working with the BMC and they were looking for candidates. For this, he visited Jadhav's Pune residence and did a mock interview with Jadhav's son and daughter in-law," said Kulkarni. The accused later called the husband-wife to Mumbai near BMC with Rs four lakh and took the money.

"He disappeared after taking the money and an FIR was registered," said Kulkarni. During interrogation it transpired, he had committed similar fraud in Pune and cheated someone for Rs 20 lakh and some job seekers in Kolhapur and cheated him of Rs six lakh.
