Schoolkids to spread R-Day cheer

MUMBAI: Students from more than 40 schools in the city will greet people this Republic Day at public places in the suburbs.

Children associated with the Bandra Interschool Republic Day group will go to stations, markets, malls and petrol pumps to wish citizens. "We want students to understand the importance of this day. The students will be given 25 paper flags each with a message printed on it, which people can stick on their clothes ," said Father Jude Fernandes, principal of St Stanislaus High School, Bandra. Students of Std I to VI will be given 10 flags each to distribute among members of their own housing society. The students hope to reach out to at least 2.5 lakh citizens. Among the institutes taking part are St Joseph School, Manik Vidyamandir, Purshottam High School.

A flag-hoisting ceremony will also be held in the schools. St Elias School, Khar, will hold a rally on the occasion.
