Dentist arrested for alleged rape of teenager in Mumbai

MUMBAI: A dentist was arrested by KasturbaMarg police on Wednesday after a 15-year-old girl accused him of raping her at a shack in Gorai. The incident took place last month but the girl had been threatened into silence.

The victim's older sister works as a compounder at the dentist, Yogendra Shukla's Borivali clinic.

Shukla used to visit the victim's home often and was on good terms with her family. In the second week of November, he took the victim out for a ride. At Gorai, he forced her into a shack and raped her. He later threatened her with dire consequences. Out of fear, the victim did not reveal anything to her family. But she noticed that Shukla had resumed his visits to her house. When he tried to take her out again, the victim complained to her maternal uncle.

On Wednesday, she registered a complaint at the Kasturba Marg police station, accompanied by her uncle and aunt. The police recorded her statement and arrested Shukla under provisions of IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He was produced before a Dindoshi sessions court on Thursday and remanded to police custody till December 16.
