MUMBAI: A 22-year-old man slipped from custody of the Dahisar police while they were escorting him to a prison in Madhya Pradesh by train on Tuesday. The accused, Bhagilal Meena, was accused of stealing a car in Dahisar in April. He was also involved in an offence in Madhya Pradesh for which he was lodged in prison there. Recently, he was brought to Mumbai for a court hearing here.
After the court hearing in Mumbai, two constables with the Dahisar police were escorting Meena to MP. They were on a long-distance train which was going to MP via Gujarat. "Between Monday night and early on Tuesday, Meena jumped off the train when it had slowed down near Vadodara railway station in Gujarat He had freed himself from his handcuffs in advance," an official said. A case was later registered against him at the Vadodara GRP outpost for escaping from custody.
Senior officials in Mumbai will conduct an inquiry against the two constables who were escorting Meena.
