NAVI MUMBAI: Over 8,000 people participated in a procession on Sunday to celebrate the 348th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh.

The 4-km-long procession called Nagar Kirtan started from Koparkhairane Gurudwara and ended at Vashi Gurudwara. Various religious programmes were also lined up for the day at gurudwaras to pay obeisance to the Sikh guru.

The procession began from Koparkhairane gurudwara with Paanch Pyares (five priests) leading the chariot of Guru Granth Sahib (The Holy Scripture of Sikhs) from the front. Traditional Sikh martial arts troupe (Gatka) displayed their combat skills much to the delight of onlookers.

"We remember the path showed by guruji and take a vow on this day to follow his teachings in daily life. His contribution to Sikhism and Indian society will be remembered forever," said G S Parwana, president of Vashi Gurudwara.
